Paleo Salmon Recipes

Yes!!! My days of consuming lame-ass paleo meals are pretty much over…It’s the dawn of a new era! I used to cook super boring paleo salmon recipes pretty regularly. You know, the kind of recipes that require you to plainly grill or bake some salmon fillets, add a dash of sea salt and pepper, and that’s that.

I got fed up after a while and eventually opted to get a paleo recipe book to help me cook up some new dishes that are interesting as well as easy on my palate. If you’re itching to whip up something new, then perhaps you should “test drive” the paleo recipes with salmon described below.

Quick Tip: I’d suggest downloading this paleo recipe book. There’s like1000 step-by-step paleo recipes in there, so you won’t be running out of recipe ideas anytime soon.

Recipe A: Paleo Diet Baked Salmon with Asparagus and Beets

Ingredients: 5 wild salmon fillets, 5 teaspoons of chopped dill, 4 medium size beets which you have to cut into cubes, 5 tablespoons of cooking fat, 20 fresh asparagus with the white part discarded, some ground black pepper plus sea salt for flavor.

Cooking Instructions:

Step 1: Your oven has to be preheated to 500 degrees F.

Step 2: Arrange 4 large sheets of foil - one for each fillet. On each foil sheet, arrange a bed of beet cubes together with 5 asparagus sprigs. Lay a salmon fillet on each veggie mix.

Step 3: Take a teaspoon of dill along with a tablespoon of cooking fat and apply on each salmon fillet. Fold foil sheet to form just a small pocket.

Step 4: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 10 minutes for every inch of thickness of the fillet. Check periodically to ensure that fillets do not get overcooked!

Step 5: Remove from oven and serve fillets with additional dill or any other herbs that rock your boat. This extremely succulent, paleo diet baked salmon dish can be enjoyed by 5 persons!

Make sure you also try the second dish which in my opinion, is one of the most richly flavored paleo salmon recipes around.

Recipe B: Paleo Salmon Avocado Recipe

Ingredients: 1 lb of salmon fillets, 2 large avocados (cut and peeled), 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 3 tablespoons of freshly squeeze lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of minced parsley, 1 tablespoon of minced shallots, a bit of sea salt and pepper for flavoring.

Cooking Instructions:

Step 1:  Blend the pieces of large avocados and lemon juice using a blender or a food processor. Next, add the olive oil in a gradual manner, while using the pulse function to process the mixture till you achieve your preferred consistency of sauce.

Step 2:
Toss in the minced parsley and shallots, and pulse some more until all the stuff are well mixed. Get a clean bowl, transfer the sauce mixture into it, and then enhance the flavor by adding some pepper and sea salt.

Step 3: Season both sides of each salmon fillet with a little sea salt and pepper.

Step 4: Coat the surface of the skillet with some oil, and place it on the stove with the heat set to medium-high. Wait until the skillet is almost smoking…

Step 5: Drop the fillets into the skillet’s surface with skin side at the bottom. Cook each side of the fillet for about 3 to 5 minutes. Once the fillets are cooked, transfer to a serving dish, pour the blended mixture all over the fillets, and enjoy the paleo salmon avocado meal with family and friends as this recipe is sufficient for serving 4 people.

Last weekend, my girlfriend and I made a special paleo diet baked salmon dish for our friends who came over all the way from Illinois, Chicago. The salmon dish was accompanied with a pretty generous amount of homemade sweet & sour mushroom gravy. Our friend Linda practically fell in love with this dish!

Linda claims that she had tasted dozens of paleo salmon recipes in the past, and none of them were as a good as the one we made last weekend. We’re so pleased that our friends genuinely enjoyed the dish. Much of the credit has to be accorded to my girlfriend Shakira for insisting that we cook the sweet & sour mushroom dish, instead of the paleo salmon avocado with shredded ginger which I wanted to make initially.

In the beginning, we had a pretty tough time deciding what to cook for our dear friends. Chicken was our first choice, but while shopping for groceries, I picked up a food & lifestyle magazine and that particular issue featured a handful of paleo salmon recipes that seem appetizing. To be honest, I was slightly drooling when I saw photos of the dishes!

I rarely drool when I look at photos of food, unlike some people like my younger brother Ricky. Now that guy, he drools quite a bit whenever he sees pictures of highly appetizing dishes, especially seafood dishes. Ricky prefers to eat fish mostly. Fish such as tuna, salmon, halibut, and cod are his favorites. Someday, I might prepare two maybe three paleo recipes with salmon for his birthday which is coming up in about two months time.

I think it’s good to eat salmon on a regular basis because the fish contains a wealth of nutrients. Even my doctor recommended that I eat at least a serving of fish a day to obtain my daily intake of essential nutrients such as protein and fatty acids. And when it comes to cooking, I’d usually go for paleo diet baked salmon with a serving of steamed vegetables. The flavor of baked meals can be enhanced in a variety of ways. Sometimes, I would use various sauces or simply throw in a large assortment of vegetables cooked in a bowl of soup. Soups are easy to make and some of my favorites are red beet soup, Thai chicken soup, pumpkin soup, or just plain homemade stock.

I’ve tried several paleo salmon recipes with soup and they all turned out great. The key is to use ingredients that are fresh and preferably organic. Yes, the fact is I use organic salmon fillets pretty much 100% of the time. I can’t recall the last time I used non-organic fillets in my cooking. In my opinion, the organic ones are not only healthier; they are also much tastier than their non-organic counterparts.

If you don’t believe me, just try a handful of paleo recipes with salmon fillets that are organic. I’m quite certain you’ll be able to feel and taste the difference almost immediately. Just try not to deep-fry those fillets! I’m aware that some people are tempted to deep-fry them, but please keep in mind that this style of cooking can be damaging to your health.

I know a friend who loves deep-fried dishes, and he would eat them almost every day. Eventually, he gained so much weight and his cholesterol level went absolutely through the roof. It was a sad sight because the guy used to be lean and he regularly participated in various marathons. So once again, please stay away from deep-frying your fillets. Paleo salmon recipes that use cooking methods such as grilling, steaming, and baking are ideal for our long-term health.
